Ontario Colleges Launch Copyright Fundamentals Training for Faculty and Staff

Ontario’s colleges are taking a proactive step toward fostering academic integrity and responsible resource use by introducing a new training program focused on copyright literacy. The "Copyright Fundamentals" course is designed to enhance awareness of Canadian copyright law and its application in educational settings. 

About the Course 

This self-paced, online training consists of a series of instructional modules created to help faculty and staff navigate the complexities of copyright, including: 

• Copyright practices in Ontario colleges 

• Fair dealing and user rights 

• License requirements 

• Balancing the rights of content creators and users 

Whether you're preparing course materials, sharing multimedia content, or using licensed resources, this course will provide practical guidance on applying copyright law appropriately in your academic work. 

How to Get Started 

Faculty and staff can register for this course by clicking this link and self-enrolling in the Employee Learning LMS. After doing so, the course will appear in their My Learning Dashboard. 

The training is structured into seven core modules, each featuring a short video. To successfully complete the course, you’ll need to take the final quiz located in Module 8. 

Here’s how to approach the course: 

• Watch each module’s video or review the transcript/summary. 

• Complete the final quiz in Module 8 after working through the content. 

• Refer to the Practical Modules as needed—they’re designed to support your day-to-day copyright decisions. 

The course will remain accessible in your Employee Learning Platform under "My Learning Dashboard," allowing you to revisit it anytime for reference or review. 

Please Note 

While these modules provide a helpful overview, all faculty and staff are still expected to understand and adhere to the specific copyright practices outlined by Algonquin College.
