Open Textbooks

Open textbooks have an open copyright license, making them freely accessible to the public. They are free to view and download online, and often have the option to be distributed in other formats, such as print, at little or no cost. Many of these open textbooks are vetted by experts or subjected to a peer review process.

Open textbooks aim to decrease the financial burden of purchasing educational resources, making education more accessible.

The resources on this page are good sources of open textbooks, which you can browse to discover relevant material for your courses.

Once you have found open textbooks that you think will be useful, visit the Adopt/Adapt a Textbook page for information and resources about using these textbooks. To learn more about how to use open educational resources within the proper legal limitations, please read the information on the OER guide home page.
